Equinix Debuts Cloud Exchange

Canary Wharf at night
Cloud Exchange aims to eliminate concerns about security and vendor lock-in.

Cloud Exchange allows participants to connect directly to the clouds involved by eliminating public internet as a middle connectivity route. Available in Silicon Valley, Washington DC, New York, Toronto, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris, Equinix plans to roll out the service to 19 markets by the end of the year. Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute connectivity is offered in Silicon Valley, London and Washington DC at present, with further locations planned.

"Just as it was with the internet, the key to realizing the business benefits of the cloud is how well connected it is," says Ihab Tarazi, CTO at Equinix. "But companies are recognizing that the internet has security and performance limitations, given that it is inherently open and shared publicly. By utilizing direct access via the Equinix Cloud Exchange, businesses no longer have to compromise on these essential requirements when accessing cloud providers."
