NYSE Gauges Demand For Basket Trading

The New York Stock Exchange is still trying to determine whether demand exists for trading a basket of stocks as a single unit, said NYSE President Richard Grasso.

It is "technologically and operationally possible" to trade an instrument that represents as many as 500 underlying securities, Grasso told a Sept. 26 press conference. "Whether there is demand to do that in an equities environment is what is being probed right now," he said.
