Cloud9 is built on WebRTC, which provides real-time communications capabilities through simple application program interfaces, and Amazon Cloud Infrastructure and was launched in 2014. The firm now has over 2,000 traders at 350 firms in 21 countries.

Icap currently uses Cloud9 within its energy teams. JPMorgan is working toward implementing Cloud9 this year, and Barclays also plans to work with Cloud9 to examine areas where implementation might be suitable.

"Soft turrets are clearly the direction of travel for the industry and their security capabilities and compliance functionality are continually improving," said Sean Charlton, head of voice at Barclays, in a statement. "We look forward to seeing Cloud9 roll out across the market."
