Bottega stepped into the interim leadership role in November 2017, following the departure of Mike Atkin, who shifted his focus to advancing the EDM Council’s research and education initiatives.

Bottega has been involved with the non-profit trade association since 2005, when he was an industry contributor, and served as chairman from 2007–2014. He then joined the council’s executive team as a senior advisor. Bottega has more than three decades’ data management experience, most recently as CDO at Bank of America, and previously at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Citi.

At the EDM Council, Bottega heads a staff of about 10 people. “My challenge is to make 10 look like 100, and the way you do that is you leverage partnerships, you leverage participants, you leverage the membership. That’s my goal, to create that community so it’s not just staff, it’s our members participating,” he says.

That means Bottega will lead the EDM Council’s evolution into a more collaborative organization, anchored by a new website boasting a social media-based platform, which is expected to launch in May. In addition to Bottega’s appointment, the board approved the new strategic mandate during its February meeting.
