The Rise and Rise of HTML5

The rise of HTML5 seemed inevitable in early 2012, and not in the sense of a-decade-from-now inevitability—rather, it had a here-tomorrow assuredness. Later that year, in September, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg dropped this gem at an industry conference: “The biggest mistake we made as a company was betting too much on HTML5 as opposed to native. It just wasn’t ready.”

Coming just a few months after Facebook’s disastrous IPO, it was quite a statement.
