ASIC Considers Kill Switch Introduction

Fidessa's David Jenkins says kill switches should be applied at the client or account level and across asset classes.

This follows a review held in August, which considered contentious issues such as high-frequency trading (HFT), dark pools and ways to avoid glitches like the Flash Crash or the Knight Capital collapse.

An immediate aspect of the new regulation may be the introduction of kill switches at brokers, which enable firms to cease trading activity in an instant, should the need arise.
