UBS Cuts Hardware Spend, Moves to Virtualization
UBS has already seen an 80 percent decline in spending on desktops from 2007 to 2008 as well as a 60 percent decrease in spending on servers, a 40 percent decrease in storage and a 20 percent decrease in network spending over the same period. "For 2009, we expect the spending to be similar," says James Lee, global head of distributed systems and storage, who spoke at the bank's recent Global Technology and Services Conference in Manhattan.
